When love and lust are turned to dust 

And time has gone doolally

A butterfly will flutter by

And tell a flower with a sigh

“I once knew Pete and Allie”


“Of couples gay so perfect they

It was a treat to meet ‘em

Geneticists since drew up lists

‘We’ll copy them’ Science insists

But there was none to beat ‘em”


“They live quite far – a Heavenly star – 

Love’s joys still on the menu

Their mansion’s sweet – paradise complete – 

Yet it resembles, say those they meet

A certain house, in a humble street

Called Mafeking Avenue


“I’m going to die but I’m on a high!”

The butterfly said “Pardon 

This oddity; life’s work for me

Has been to tell their story, see?

Now my reward – I’m going to be 

With them. They’ve such a garden!
