Three boats ride at anchor in the calm night
Warning lights winking without respite
And the far headlands to left and right...
Another Christmas day, carols and praise –
Two dozen Christmases we’ve shared – and more...
With light, in the world, in my heart,
To see you by, there’ll always be hope.
It’s God’s will: you and me...
Through that yellow light
Of strange, mid-autumn morning
You walked and turned as ever...
You beside me on the balcony
The dark Aegean sea at dawn
And ouzo and water and cigarettes...
It’s more quiet than I’ve ever known
No cat stirs, wasp or fly.
At least for a while...
Heaven’s an autumnal room
When Allie is at home
The window-ivy shedding gloom...
You are my life: there’s no divide
Hard words could cause or temper bring
I love you more than being or thing...
I feel my life blessed by your love
I sit here in a radiant sun
Reminded of you, warmth above...
I sing an Edinburgh song:
Of love in bed all morning long
(We never made that lunchtime show)...
